Introduce yourself
My name is Mia and my pronouns are they/them. Iām the Manager of Admin & Creatives at Sky Sirens.
How long have you been at Sky Sirens?
I started as a student at Sky Sirens in 2018. I begun with the triple whammy of Pole, Lyra, and Burlesque - way before the studio offered Sling classes! I enjoyed myself so much and found a home in the Siren community, so when I saw that Katia was hiring for a new Siren of the House, I applied. Katia was kind enough to allow me to complete my internship at the studio, as I was studying Communication Design at the time - we actually did the same degree! From there my role took on more of a Graphic Design focus, it grew and expanded over time, and now I'm lucky to be able to manage the Creative & Administrative teams.
What do you identify as within the LGBTQIA+ community?
For lack of more fitting terms, I've always just identified as queer & non-binary. I've never really felt like other labels under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella quite represent my own perception or feelings about my sexuality & gender.
For me, I think subscribing to those labels has been more for the benefit of others & their understanding of me - I'd be happy not having to label myself as anything!
Honestly, I've just always kind of known! I never had an 'official' coming out or anything because pretty much everyone in my life also knew before I got around to mentioning it. That being said, growing up in a pretty conservative immigrant family meant it was something I was never able to be open with my parents about, so I have no clue if they know or not. It took me quite a while to become as comfortable expressing myself and my identity as I am now.
